Motivational-Orienting Dominant as a Specific Feature of Term Formation

Review of the book: Kulikova I.S., Salmina D.V. Linguistic Terminology in the Professional Aspect. St. Petersburg, 2020. 380 p. (in Russ.) In this book, term formation is considered primarily using linguistic material in two aspects: the link between naming and the orienting potential of terms, and the system-forming potential of different methods of term formation. Noting the high cognitive and communicative-pragmatic value of the motivation of terms in the language for specific purposes, the authors argue that three types of motivation intersect with different degrees of term orientation. The novelty of the reviewed book lies in the fact that the authors, making their own adjustments to naming in terminology, put relevant accents on the concepts under consideration.
