Barriers to neurosurgical care in Gaza: navigating health system disruptions and scarcity of resources
Abstract The ongoing conflict in Gaza has severely impacted the healthcare system, particularly in neurosurgery. Patients face significant challenges in accessing timely medical care due to movement restrictions, destruction of infrastructure, and a lack of resources. Neurosurgeons, like Dr. Husam Abukhedeir, experience moral dilemmas as they navigate the complexities of providing care under dire circumstances. The situation has led to increased casualties, limb loss incidence, and a growing need for rehabilitation services. Urgent humanitarian support is required to address the healthcare crisis and support the affected population in Gaza.
