General Overview of Epilepsy Surgery
Epilepsy patients are three times more likely to die prematurely than the general population. When undergoing epilepsy surgery, the survival rate is 40% higher than that of patients who did not undergo surgery. Robot-assisted stereoelectroencephalography surgery, which involves locating and resecting the area where the seizure occurred, is a representative treatment for intractable epilepsy. Magnetoencephalography enhances the efficacy of surgical intervention for patients with intractable epilepsy by identifying the precise location of the epileptic lesion with high spatial resolution and accuracy. In the future, tertiary general hospitals will transform into specialist-centered hospitals because of resident strikes. This will produce a gap in the workforce that can be filled by skilled physician-assistant clinical pathologists who can significantly contribute to the surgical treatment and magnetoencephalography.
