Microstructure feature and wear mechanism of laser-clad TC4 and TC4-WC coating
Purpose This study aims to investigate the microstructure evolution and wear mechanism of laser-clad TC4-WC coating, TC4 coating and TC4 alloy. Design/methodology/approach This study investigates the microstructure evolution and wear mechanism of laser-clad TC4-WC coating, TC4 coating and TC4 alloy by using scanning electron microscope/electron backscatter diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Findings Laser-clad TC4-WC coating is mainly composed of β -Ti, WC, W 2 C, TiC and a small amount of W. TC4 coating is mainly composed of a -Ti and acicular a ’ martensite. The wear mechanism of the TC4-WC coating is the synergistic mechanism of abrasive, oxidation and adhesive wear, while that of TC4 coating and TC4 alloy is the synergistic mechanism of abrasive and adhesive wear. Originality/value This study provides data support for understanding the wear behavior and mechanism of laser-clad TC4-WC coating, TC4 coating and TC4 alloy.
