Two-dimensional heterostructured rGO@Bi2O2CO3 composite for electromagnetic wave absorption with broad absorption bandwidth

Developing high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials is vital for addressing escalating EMW pollution challenges. In this study, heterostructured reduced graphene oxide@Bi₂O₂CO₃ (rGO@BOC) composites were synthesized via a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method , featuring two-dimensional BOC flakes uniformly anchored on the surface of rGO nanosheets . The integration of BOC and rGO creates a heterostructure that synergistically combines the high electric conductive advantages of rGO with the interfacial properties of BOC, resulting in excellent EMW absorption performance of rGO@BOC composites. Notably, rGO@BOC-2 composite achieves broad effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss ( RL ) < -10 dB) of 6.3 GHz spanning 11.7–18.0 GHz at an ultrathin thickness of 2.0 mm, along with the minimum RL of −27.3 dB. The superior broadband EMW absorption performance of rGO@BOC composite is attributed to optimized impedance matching, enhanced interfacial polarization , and multiple reflection/scattering mechanisms enabled by the heterostructure . This work demonstrates the promising application of rGO@BOC composites as broad effective absorption bandwidth, high-efficiency EMW absorption materials. • Two-dimensional heterostructured rGO@BOC as electromagnetic wave absorption was prepared by a facile method. • Effective attenuation of electromagnetic waves was significantly improved in two-dimensional heterostructure . • When the thickness is 2.0 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth of rGO@BOC-2 is as high as 6.3 GHz.
