Effect of Iron Doping on Titania Nanoparticles Derived from Dalbergia sissoo for Removal of Tetracycline Hydrochloride

This study focuses on the synthesis of Dalbergia sissoo mediated Fe doped titania (Fe-TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) using the wet impregnation method. The synthesized photocatalyst was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis). XRD confirmed the crystal structure of the Fe-TiO2 with an average crystallite size of 17.6 nm. Different quantities of Fe (0.5, and 1%) doped with titanium dioxide (TiO2) were used for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) in the presence of light exposure time duration of (30, 60, 90, and 120 min). Moreover, 0.5% Fe-TiO2 has shown 91.72% degradation efficiency using 0.1 g photocatalyst, 20 ppm TC and light irradiation 120 min. On the other hand, 1% Fe-TiO2 showed better TC degradation (92.89%) with a slightly higher concentration of antibiotic (50 ppm). It was concluded that Fe-TiO2 is a more favorable photocatalyst for the removal of antibiotics.
