Study of Effect of Silver Doping on Structural Morphological and Electrochemical Properties of Hydrothermally Synthesized Silver-Doped MoS2 Nanoflower

The need for renewable energy sources like wind, hydro, and solar power for future energy storage solutions has increased due to the depletion of fossil fuels and the pollution they produce. Supercapacitors have emerged as promising devices to address the energy crisis. In this study, MoS2 is explored due to its excellent electrical, mechanical, optical, and electrochemical properties, making it a suitable material for electrochemical supercapacitors. A facile hydrothermal method was used to prepare pure and silver doped MoS2 (Ag-doped MoS2) nanoflowers. The effect of Ag doping on structural morphological and electrochemical properties was studied using different characterization techniques. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), and High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) were used for structural, morphological, and lattice fringe analysis of pure and Ag-doped MoS2 nanoflowers. The bandgap energy was determined through UV-visible spectroscopy, while the composition and valance states were examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). To further investigate the electrochemical properties of the synthesized pure and Ag-doped MoS2 nanoflowers, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were employed. The electrochemical results reveal that the specific capacitance value of 3% Ag-doped MoS2 (282 F/g) is greater than that of pure (206 F/g) and 6% Ag-doped MoS2 (262 F/g). Thus, an optimized concentration of Ag doped in MoS2 can be used as electrode material for future applications of energy storage devices.
