Situs inversus totalis. A specular portrait.
Situs inversus totalis is an extremely rare congenital anomaly in which the thoracic and abdominal organs are transposed to the opposite side from their usual anatomical location. This condition is usually asymptomatic and goes unnoticed until diagnostic imaging for unrelated diseases is performed. In such an anatomical circumstance, the presentation of gallbladder lithiasis, its diagnosis and the therapeutic operative procedure can be delicate. This article presents a case of complete situs inversus diagnosed in a woman presenting biliary colic type pain on vesicular lithiasis with left clinical expression. The objective of this report is to share our experience and briefly discuss the relevant literature on this unique patient population.
