Evaluation Of A Rapid Diagnostic Test (Rdt) For Detection Of Streptococcus Pyogenes (Strepto A) Versus Culture.

ntroduction. Group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus (Strepto A) is responsible for streptococcal tonsillitis, which can lead to serious complications if not treated early, hence the need for reliable and rapid diagnostic tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the Precisio®Strep A RDT compared to culture and to determine the advantages and limitations of the RDT for its clinical recommendation. Materials and methods. We recruited 80 patients with symptoms of Streptococcus A infection who provided samples for the Precisio®Strep A RDT and for culture. Diagnostic performance was compared using statistical tests. Results. The Precisio®Strep A RDT showed a sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 94%, a positive predictive value of 64% and a negative predictive value of 100%. Conclusion. The Precisio®Strep A RDT is an effective tool for the diagnosis of streptococcal A infection, offering speed, high sensitivity and specificity. Its use, especially in community practice, allows efficient use of antibiotics and optimisation of clinical care.
