The Link Between Adiposity and Colorectal Cancer: Troubling Statistics

With their increasing incidence, colorectal cancers are today a public health issue contributing significantly to the global burden. Even if the improvement of screening largely explains the major axis of the positive evolution of strategic projects in the fight against cancer, primary prevention remains the first line of action. Therefore, it is a priority to draw up a clear picture of the particularly modifiable risk predictors for which particular attention should be paid. Although research has now recognized overweight and obesity as common conditions that weigh heavily on colorectal cancer susceptibility, they are often underestimated in our society and their rates continue to rise. Considering the available data of a growing global epidemic of their occurrence, this topic is more essential to address than ever. A concise overview of overweight and obesity as a factor in a modifiable causal link to colorectal cancers is explored in this mini-review. Our goal is health education, which should increase awareness of this issue and involve healthy weight strategies as an additional element in effective cancer planning.
