UiO-based platforms in biomedicine: Advanced nanovehicles for effective treatment
In current medical field, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer treatments face many challenges. The increasing resistance of bacteria causes the efficacy of traditional antibacterial drugs to decrease gradually. The complex pathogenesis and chronic course of inflammatory diseases make treatment difficult. There are still some limitations to the treatment of cancer. Therefore, searching for an efficient and safe therapeutic strategies and materials has become urgent. Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials have attracted wide attention in antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer therapy due to their unique structure and diverse properties. UiO-based MOF (UiO = University of Oslo) is a representative class of MOF materials. These UiO-66 and UiO-67 have significant advantages and potential value in the treatment of bacterial infections, inflammatory diseases, and cancer due to their excellent stability, high specific surface area, and tunable structure. In antimicrobial therapy , UiO-based MOF can inhibit bacterial growth and spread in various ways. In anti-inflammatory therapy, inflammation-related signaling pathways can be regulated. Anti-cancer therapy has the role of targeting the delivery of anti-cancer drugs and enhancing the therapeutic effect. This paper systematically reviews the application of UiO-based MOFs in antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer therapy. It also describes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the developing MOFs that will produce a family of UiO-based materials, discusses the challenges of UiO-based MOFs in biomedical applications, and looks ahead to future developments, suggesting that AI may drive further advances in biomedicine. The latest research on antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer therapy in the current stage by UIO-based platform was further described comprehensively and systematically. • The recent research advances on UIO©-based MOFs for diseases therapy was discussed. • It outlooks several important challenges in the diseases treatment of UIO-based MOFs. • The use of artificial intelligence (Al) was predicted in the design of MOFs.
