Ultrasound assisted, catheter-directed thrombolysis for acute intermediate-high risk pulmonary embolism: Focus on safety for oncological patients

• In oncological patients PE represents the second cause of mortality after death due to the cancer itself. • The effectiveness and safety of catheter-directed therapies for acute PE has been rarely investigated in oncological patients. • In this study, oncological patients affected by intermediate-high risk PE and treated with ultrasound-facilitated catheter-directed thrombolysis, were compared to non oncological patients in terms of bleeding complications (defined as BARC > 3a) and need for transfusions. • When comparing bleeding complications no significant differences were found between patients with active cancer and those without.
