The Impact of Incorporating Boron Nitride Nano-Particles as Reinforcement into Heat-Cured Acrylic Soft Denture Lining Material on Tear and Shear Bond Strength to Acrylic Denture Base Material: An in Vitro Study
Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the effect of adding boron nitride nanoparticles (BN NPs) to heat-cured acrylic soft denture lining material on the shear and tear bond strength to the denture base. Methods: According to the results of the pilot study, 1.5 and 2% by weight of BN NPs were identified as the most suitable percentages to be added to the soft lining material. Sixty specimens were prepared, with 30 specimens allocated for each test. BN NPs were spread through the monomer by sonication using a sonicator probe, and then the soft liner powder was added to the sonicated monomer containing the nanoparticles. Results: The results of shear and tear bond strength tests demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the groups ( P < 0.001). The post hoc test showed a statistically significant difference for all pairwise comparisons ( P < 0.001). Only tear bond strength between 1.5 and 2% bon nitride was marginally nonsignificant ( P = 0.554). Conclusion: The addition of BN NPs can enhance the shear and tear bond strength of heat-cured acrylic soft denture lining material.
