DISTRIBUIÇÃO DAS COLECISTECTOMIAS NO ESTADO DO CEARÁ: ANÁLISE DA CAPACIDADE DE EXECUÇÃO DO PROCEDIMENTO NAS REGIÕES DE SAÚDE
Introduction: Cholelithiasis is a highly prevalent condition worldwide. Delays in its diagnosis and appropriate treatment expose patients to an increased risk of potentially severe complications. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the distribution and execution capacity of cholecystectomy procedures across the health regions of the State of Ceará. Methods: Data were collected from the DATASUS and SESA-CE systems for the period from November 2018 to November 2024. The state organization was examined according to the five Health Macroregions. The data were then correlated with the state’s sociodemographic indicators and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: During the analyzed period, a total of 41,329 cholecystectomies were performed. Although Fortaleza accounted for the highest absolute number of procedures (16,140), the Cariri Macroregion exhibited the highest per capita rate, with 693.6 (95% CI: 608.3; 706.9) procedures per 100,000 inhabitants. Conversely, the Jaguaribe Valley Macroregion recorded the lowest absolute (1,614) and per capita (292.4; 95% CI: 278.2; 306.7) numbers of cholecystectomies. Conclusion: The data analysis indicates a strong influence of operational capacity and human resources on the performance of cholecystectomies in Ceará. Regions such as Cariri and Sertão Central face significant challenges due to a deficit of hospital beds and a scarcity of anesthesiologists. These findings underscore the need for public policies that promote the decentralization of health services, expand surgical infrastructure, and improve the distribution of professionals.
