A Novel LSO-PI Open-Left UPQC for Dual Load Harmonic Mitigation and Voltage Correction
This study presents the Leopard seal optimization (LSO)-Proportional Integral (PI) based Open Left Unified Power Quality Conditioner (OL-UPQC), a novel configuration that combines the design structure of open UPQC and left shunt UPQC. This unique design of OL-UPQC mandates the usage of closed loop control systems that rely largely on the operation and performance of the PI controller for both shunt and series converter control. The left shunt converter is designed to suppress harmonics from numerous load sites, therefore it is controlled using the unit vector template (UVT) method, which is strongly reliant on the performance of the PI controller. In an open system, the series converter's independent DC-link voltage control underlines the critical role it plays in ensuring correct performance for voltage-sensitive loads on the left. Thus, its control is based on the synchronous reference frame (SRF) approach, which employs an LSO tuned PI controller for precise control and operation of voltage across sensitive loads. A comprehensive comparison simulation analysis is carried out to assess the efficacy of the proposed configuration. This study demonstrates how the configuration can reduce harmonic pollution from many loads. Furthermore, the configuration's ability to provide voltage compensation in various voltage disturbance scenarios is studied.
