Overview on Components and Concepts for UWB Phase-Locked Loops with Highest Phase-Stability

This scientific paper is an outcome of the MARIE project (for more information, see trrmarie.de) C01. Mobile terahertz sensors are an emerging technology with various significant applications. However, the performance of these sensors relies on the reference signals in the microwave range with high demands regarding bandwidth, phase noise and chirp linearity. To achieve an unique combination of these contrary demands within a mobile scale, we propose a novel PLL concept, which reduces the in-loop division factor. Moreover, we present the required oscillators, frequency divider and phase frequency detector. All components are based on SiGe MMICs and are investigated on their own to achieve highest performance.
