Multilayer Chipless THz Tag for Identification
Identification of an object or a class of objects is a more and more appealing goal in the vast realm of the Internet of Everything (IoE) paradigm. This work proposes a multilayer dielectric structure that can encode information in its frequency response to a probing plane wave. This ‘electromagnetic fingerprint’ can be tailored by using passive materials without resorting to any integrated circuit, thus consisting in a chipless Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tag working within the Terahertz (THz) regime. This work investigates the opportunity offered by the insertion of an anisotropic defect layer that seems a promising solution to further increase the encoding capability by exploiting a dual-polarized interrogation of the tag.
