Motion Modulation Backscattering of Linear Chipless RFID Tags: THz Measurements
In the field of RFID, mitigating clutter and self-interference could be achieved by utilizing techniques such as nonlinear or time-variant responses from RFID tags. Recently, motion-modulated chipless RFID is introduced as a proficient backscatter communication technique with a linear time-variant property, thus enabling the identification and sensing of moving objects over considerable distances. This paper explores the motion-induced modulation—phase (Doppler) modulation from UHF up to THz bands. Regarding measurements, the VNA CW mode is utilized to estimate both the amplitude and phase of the backscattered frequency components near the illuminating carrier frequency. This operational mode can ultimately be employed to achieve identification and sensing of time-variant chipless RFID tags.
