Outdoor THz Radio Units Towards Dependable High-Speed Wireless Transmission
Terahertz (THz) band systems are anticipated to play a pivotal role in achieving short-range, high-speed communications. Despite their potential, adverse weather conditions such as rain attenuation and wind-induced vibration pose significant challenges to THz communication systems. This paper focuses on the design and evaluation of reliable THz transmitters. Recently, we developed a 300GHz outdoor transceiver system and conducted long-term transmission experiments to assess performance under various weather conditions. A comprehensive link budget model was created to evaluate system performance under stormy conditions. The results indicate that with optimal antenna design and robust transceiver configurations, stable and reliable THz communication can be achieved even in severe weather conditions.
