Effectiveness Of Otago Exercise Program And Pnf Tecnique For Fall Risk In Geriatric Population
Background: The Otago Exercise Program (OEP) is the most widespread fall prevention program. It was developed at Otago Medical School and implemented across New Zealand by the Accident Compensation Corporation. The program includes strength and balance exercises. It is recommended for community-dwelling older adults who can exercise safely on their own and who are able to understand and follow the exercise instructions. Materials & Methods: The study includes 30 participants (males and females) between the age of 60-80 years. They were separated in two groups. Group A, Group B.15 participants in each group. GROUP A: - Otago Exercise Program, GROUP B: - PNF Technique The trial will be last for 4 weeks in 4 settings. Timed Up and Go Test and Berg Balance Scale (BBS) used to assessment of falls risk in geriatric. T test was used for statical analysis. The subjects' demographic information was gathered from their health records at the health centers. "Functional capacity," "physical performance," and "fall incidence" were among the outcome measures. Before and after the exercise training programme, all of these outcome factors were assessed timed up and go test were used to determine functional capacity (TUGT) and Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Results: The study results shows that there is a significant difference between the post scores of the groups as compared with GROUP A: - Otago Exercise Program, GROUP B: - PNF Technique. Highest effects can be seen in the Otago Exercise Program group with the post score of 19.30±1.947, post PNF Technique score was 22.20±2.394 and there was a significant difference in the pre and post scores of both the groups. There was a significant difference in the Time up and go scores post results between two groups as well as in the scores of the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Higher effects was seen the score of Otago Exercise Program as compared with the PNF Technique Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research, we are able to draw the conclusion that the Otago Exercise Program and the PNF method have a considerable impact on the risk of falling experienced by elderly people. When compared with PNF, the impact of Otago on the elderly population's risk of falling is much larger. When it comes to reducing the risk of falls in elderly populations, the Otago protocol is the most effective option. Additional research with a larger sample size and improved testing and monitoring mechanisms for the participants' impacts is required in order to draw more conclusions.
