Integrating Robust Encryption Schemes into Elliptic Curve Cryptography for Mobile Edge Security

The rapid expansion of IoT technologies, including cloud, fog, and edge computing, has led to a significant rise in communication volumes. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) brings computational resources and data storage closer to users by positioning them at the network's edge. This proximity offers advantages such as reduced latency, improved data processing, enhanced user experience, and better network performance. Despite these benefits, MEC faces challenges like limited resources, scalability, complex management, security risks, data consistency issues, and network dependency. MEC is vulnerable to threats like data tampering, unauthorized access, DDoS attacks, and eavesdropping. To counter these, algorithms must ensure confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity. This paper proposes a hybrid encryption approach for key generation using both public and private keys. The private key encrypts data, while the public key allows only authorized recipients to decrypt it. A key wrapping scheme with asymmetric or symmetric encryption is used for secure key transfer. Security techniques in MEC include encryption (ECC, AES), secure key exchange, access control, and threat detection. ECC, with smaller key sizes, offers enhanced security and faster performance compared to RSA. This study explores cryptographic algorithms like RSA, AES, ECC, ECC-DH, and ECDSA, analyzing the security levels of curves such as SECP192R1, SECP224R1, and SECP256R1 using Jupyter notebooks. A new ECIES-based key wrapping method for improved MEC security is also discussed.
