Next-Generation Railway System for Inter-Train-to-Train Communication Using DSRC and LTE-R Based Intelligent Tunnels

The Existing Railway system is encountering numerous challenges regarding the safety and operational purposes of the trains. Many incidents occur in railway streams, such as train crashes and considerable delays in trains due to inefficient data transmission to the center. This novel paper proposes an Intelligent-train-to-train communication system utilizing Long-term Evolution for Railways (LTE-R) and an Integrated Intelligent Private Server (IPS) for Control Centres, removing information dissemination. A dedicated Short-Range Communication system establishes communication between the intelligent tunnels which serve as data checkpoints containing the Private Wireless Sensor Network (P-WSN). In integration, this system has enormous functions, such as continuously monitoring the speed of trains, which can be adjusted based on the quality of the structural strength of the bridge, smart logistics with automated depots, smart tracking with platform navigation, and smart railway stations with intelligent platforms using Industry 4.0. In addition to these functions, the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC) will continuously monitor the geolocations of each train to ensure passenger safety, reliability of information, seamless connectivity, and cost management solutions. This approach of retrofitting the inefficient existing railway system will contribute to the next level of futuristic Intelligent Transportation systems for Railways and Next-Generation Railway Systems (NGRS).
