Transmit–Receive Joint Optimization Method for Target Measurement Under Interrupted Sampling Repeater Jamming Scenarios

With the rapid advancement of electronic countermeasure technology, active jamming presents a significant challenge to traditional radar measurement functions. Interrupted sampling repeater jamming (ISRJ), a typical coherent jamming technique widely employed in pulse-Doppler radar systems, can create confusing targets at the receiver, thereby degrading the measurement of the real target. In this article, we propose a measurement method under ISRJ scenarios through the simultaneous design of the transmit waveform and receive filter. Specifically, we first model the simultaneous design process as a joint-constrained optimization process based on the measurement process in the ISRJ scenario, aiming to minimize the local peak sidelobe level (LPSL) of the target and the local peak level (LPL) of the ISRJ. To solve the nonconvex challenges caused by the constraints of the waveform and filter, we propose an optimization framework over the Riemannian product manifold, which consists of the complex circle manifold (CCM) and complex sphere manifold (CSM). This manifold-based framework treats the jointly constrained simultaneous design problem as an unconstrained one within a constructed restriction space. We then develop two iterative algorithms based on the Riemannian gradient and Hessian matrix to efficiently address the reformulated problem. Furthermore, we conduct numerical experiments using simulated data and electromagnetic computation data to verify the target measurement performance of our proposed algorithms. Finally, we implement the designed waveform and filter on indoor instruments to analyze the practical hardware system’s impact.
