The Ethics of AI in Literature: Reflections On Representation and Responsibility

The increase in literature on Artificial Intelligence (AI) had made the landscape an attractive one, leading to the delving of the ethical dimensions. This paper discusses the relations in which the AI representation within literature is complex with ethical duties lying within its portrayal. This paper, then, undertakes to use literary theory, ethical philosophy, and AI studies to consider the effect that AI entities in literature should have on how and to what effect they should suggest that society think about AI technology. The paper will then look into various depictions of AI in the literature, from a cute and friendly friend to an evil tyrant. Finally, it is going to explore the duties that come under the purview of these creators and authors, meaning the ethical responsibility. It will interrogate questions about agency, personhood, and moral accountability ascribed to AI entities within literary contexts. Additionally, it aims to find out exactly how such depictions in the real world may have an effect on attitudes towards AI in the world and further explore potential effects that such representations may mean, even carrying ethical consideration for not allowing or allowing stereotypes, biases, and the like through literature. The paper will also raise up some of the key moral issues that are involved in the use of AI in the creation of literature. It is always the question of authorship, creativity, and authenticity that needs to be mentioned in the case of AI-generated writing tools. Raises a number of ethical issues on intellectual property, transparency, and ethical concerns in relation to the AI role being attributed to shaping narrative content.
