Advances in SiGe-Based Transceiver Front-End Circuits for THz MIMO Radar
This scientific paper is an outcome of the MARIE project (for more information, see trrmarie.de) C03. The paper presents advances in FMCW MIMO radar systems at frequencies close to and above 300 GHz used for high-precision localization. High-speed SiGe HBT technology is a key enabler to develop highly integrated and mobile transceivers with on-chip antennas in the THz range. Current research shows that scalable MIMO arrays, novel modulator designs, and low phase noise and high bandwidth signal generation are key objectives. Furthermore, THz beam steering using phased-arrays and MIMO-based detection methods such as TDM, Phased-MIMO, and PMCW are important subareas, each method having its own strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, combining multiple MMICs and designing array properties are current research objectives when increasing spatial resolution. This paper provides an overview of the these topics and highlights key areas.
