A Model Predictive Control for Output Power Smoothing of Dynamic Wireless Power Charging
Now a days wireless power transfer (WPT) charging system is plays a significant approach in EV battery charging. In WPT, the dynamic wireless power charging (DWPT) is very much required to improve the driving range limitation of the EV. In DWPT the output voltage varies due to the dynamic nature of coupling coefficient. As a result the power transmission to the secondary load side is also varies. This power variation affects the performance of the battery. To improve the life-cycle of battery, a super-capacitor as a supplementary source can be used in the receiver side. The output voltage or current regulation is very much important for battery charging. In most of the literature PI controller is used for the voltage and current regulation. The major drawback of the PI controller as difficult to regulate the current under dynamic condition. To overcome the drawback, in this work a combination of PI and model predictive control(PI-MPC) is used for voltage or current regulation. This controller is used to control the parameters of both transmitter and receiver side. A comparison of the regulation performance by using the PI controller and PI-MPC is presented. The system is simulated by using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The performance is also evaluated on a small-scale dynamic wireless charging prototype.
