Hybrid Neural Networks for Enhanced Image Super-Resolution Using Multi-Scale Features

This research put forth an improved multi-scale features based hybrid neural network for improving the image super resolution. Local features are extracted using a convolutional layer, the high-frequency parts are given more attention through the use of attention mechanisms, and finally the long-term dependencies are captured by recurrent structures. Specifically, the main objective sought is enhancing quality of high-resolution images reconstructed from low resolutions inputs. To examine the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, it was applied to standard benchmarks, which include DIV2K, Set5, Set14, BSD100 as per PSNR and SSIM measurement. Comparing with the traditional methods such as bicubic interpolation and other CNN based super resolution models, the hybrid model had better PSNR and SSIM with better generalization. Specifically the multi-scale feature extraction was found to perform well when handling of images with different texture and details as it was able to produce clear, sharp and aesthetically pleasing images at higher resolutions. Here we can see that extensibility of the model is also the main problem, as it is computationally intensive, thereby limiting its real-time applications potential, yet it offers a major advancement in the field of image super-resolution. The future work will include refinement of the model for its practical applications in a real-time environment for different activities.
