Smart Digital Electric Meters for Monitoring Home Appliances

That is why in today’s modern society automated systems are more preferable rather manual ones. The advancement of online technology in the current generation is the IoT and the growth in the number of internet users has increased in the recent past decade. It is one of the basic necessities that most people require for their daily use, residential, business, and farming activities. The major problem facing electricity companies today is the issue of the theft of electricity which impacts the finances of the energy companies as well as consumers’ billing statements. These scenario are more common in our country. The table shows that a lot of electricity can be saved in case these thefts are prevented. This is done by a Smart Energy Meter (SEM). A SEM is an electronic device that has an energy meter chip that can calculate the units of electricity that have been used and it has a cellular algorithm for issuing out the information. Here is an outline of an automated metering and billing system incorporating a smart energy meter. This energy meter is connected to a central base station and sends the power consumption detail along with some other related information to the consumer and electricity board through an Android application and a web application respectively. Other measures and suggestions for further actions are also included to help vendors detect, minimize, and prevent theft. The whole system acts as a discouragement to offenses and employs an interconnected means of communicating the meter readings to its clients across the globe. IoT devices enable communication between the user and the central system on the side of the household.
