Del Tapón del Darién al de Tapachula. Trazo y conformación de nuevas rutas de migrantes que se desplazan con destino a Estados Unidos

A geographic and sociological investigation was conducted on the routes used by migrants who cross the Darien and enter Mexico through Tapachula in order to reach the United States. Methodologically, we combined cartographic analysis, interviews and field trips. In addition, GPS (Global Positioning System) points were taken to spatialize the presence of the National Guard (GN) in the Chiapas Coast-Soconusco corridor. The research is pertinent because it accounts for new routes and the skill of migrants to achieve their purpose, in addition to the perception of Tapachula as a prison city facing challenges similar to those of the Darien among those interviewed. Finally, it is important to point out that, based on their narratives, the first georeferenced database of the routes was built in GIS (Geographic Information System).
