Space-time dynamics of land use and cover in the municipality of Camalaú-PB, Brazil
The aim was to analyze the space-time behavior of the Caatinga Biome between 1985 and 2020 using remote sensing, relating it to the traditional exploitation and production practices of farmers in the municipality of Camalaú-PB, Brazil. One of the main purposes of analyzing the data in the images was to check whether producers in the region know and apply Agroforestry Systems and Degraded Area Recovery techniques, given the advanced desertification process in the region. Geospatial data on land use and land cover in Camalaú was used, and maps were generated using the free QGis software, enabling spatial analysis of the land cover pattern over 36 years of use and occupation of the Caatinga biome. The expansion of agricultural activities has led to changes in vegetation patterns and the dynamics of the municipality's water bodies. These changes have im-plications for the environment and the sustainability of the region's natural resources. Although the producers do not have technical assistance, some management practices may have contributed to preserving water bodies and forest formation. There has been a temporal change in the Caatinga Biome in the municipality of Camalaú over 36 years, and an increase in the areas susceptible to desertification was noted.
