ANATOMICAL VARIATIONS IN THE UNCINATE PROCESS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH OSTIOMEATAL COMPLEX AND SINUSITIS ON MULTIDETECTOR COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY
Aims and Objectives: To correlate the anatomical variations of the uncinate process and its relationship with ostiomeatal complex pathologies and sinusitis on MDCT. The study involved 50 chronic sinusitis patients who underwent CT PNS at M.S. Ram Materials and Methods: aiah Hospitals, recording demographic details and clinical data. CT images were analyzed using bone and soft tissue window settings to visualize anatomy, variations, and sinonasal pathology. Among 50 patients of CRS, the majority were aged between 21 to Results: 30 years (28%) with equal gender distribution. In our study, the UP superior attachment variations were more frequent with type II being the commonest, which was found in 38%, and type VI being the least common type (4%). 11% had medially bent UP, 1% had laterally bent UP and the UP tip was pneumatized in 6%. Among other OMC variations, ANC was the most common variation found in 88%. The maxillary sinus was the most commonly involved (60%). In our study, no signicant correlation was found between the type of UP attachment and frontal sinusitis. However, a signicant correlation between concha bullosa and maxillary sinusitis was found. The study examined CT images of 50 patients and f Conclusion: ound that UP superior attachment variations were more frequent, with Type II attachment to the posteromedial aspect of the ANC being the most common. ANC was the most common OMC variation, and the maxillary sinus was the most involved.
