DIGITAL TOOLS IN SCIENCE EDUCATION: ASSESSING TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION AND THEIR ROLE IN STUDENTS' SKILL DEVELOPMENT
The study aimed to evaluate the integration of digital tools in science education within Indian classrooms, focusing on private schools in the Delhi/NCR region. Utilizing a descriptive research design and a quantitative methodology, data was collected through structured questionnaires distributed to middle and secondary school science teachers. The findings revealed varying levels of digital tool usage in science classrooms. Digital models, simulations, game-based learning platforms, and interactive whiteboards or projectors were widely used, with the highest mean usage observed for interactive whiteboards or projectors. However, the usage of Tablets and iPads was notably low, highlighting a potential area for improvement. The study also highlighted the importance of continuous professional development, as evidenced by the frequent participation in training programs. Furthermore, the research explored how digital tools contribute to the enhancement of critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and engagement skills among students. The results underscored the need for further growth and improvement in the effective integration of digital tools to enhance science education. By examining the relationship between digital tool usage and skill development, this research aims to provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers, ultimately guiding the effective integration of digital tools in science education to prepare students for future challenges and ensure they possess the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
