Complex Dynamics of Work-Life Balance, Employee-Organization Relationship, Flexibility, and Employee Engagement: The Role of Leadership Style and Organizational Culture in Enhancing Job Satisfaction

Abstract Within the framework of port management in Indonesia, this thorough study investigates the complex dynamics of work-life balance, employee-organization interactions, work-life flexibility, and employee engagement. It looks at how these elements together affect job satisfaction and looks at how organizational culture and leadership style might moderate things. Given the changing nature of employment in the post-COVID-19 era and the special difficulties experienced by the Indonesian port management industry, the research is especially relevant. Being the biggest archipelagic state in the world with more than 17,000 islands, Indonesia mostly depends on its ports for national connectivity, trade facilitation, and economic growth. Recent years have seen major changes in Indonesia’s port management scene including infrastructure improvements, digitalization programs, and legislative/law reforms. These developments together with worldwide trends in work practices have produced a complex environment for port staff that calls for a better knowledge of elements influencing their job satisfaction and general well-being. This study used a mixed-method approach to gather information from 1,500 workers spread among many Indonesian port management agencies, including private operators and state-owned companies such as PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo). To compile extensive and varied data, the study included focus groups, in-depth interviews, and a thorough quantitative survey. Key results show that, with the strength of employee-organizing interactions as a major mediator, work-life balance greatly increases job satisfaction among Indonesian port management personnel.
