Noninvasive in vivo imaging of human skin cancer tissue using nanosensitive optical coherence tomography (Conference Presentation)
The manifestation of skin cancer first starts at the sub-micron level within tissue cells. The gold standard for assessment of suspected skin cancer lesions involves an expensive and often painful biopsy process, followed by histopathological assessment of skin tissue. This can lead to complications such as scarring or excessive bleeding of the affected region. A recently developed variant of optical coherence tomography (OCT) known as nano sensitive OCT has shown great potential to delineate cancerous and healthy tissue ex-vivo. In this study, we investigate the possibility of extending this to an in-vivo preoperative setting to assess nsOCT as a viable imaging method for clinicians.
