Facial volumetric biostimulation with 200 kDa auto-crosslinked hyaluronic acid through the dual fan technique
BACKGROUND: Facial ageing involves skeletal alterations, volume loss in the fat compartment and skin alterations. The current goal of face aesthetic treatments is to reverse the changes that occur during the ageing process while promoting the maintenance of the patients’ bodily appearance and natural beauty. Hyaluronic acid is the main component of the extracellular matrix and it has been established as one of the best known materials for soft tissue augmentation by cosmetic dermatologists. Hyaluronic acid is the key molecule in the treatment of skin ageing, and it is one of the most widely used active ingredients in cosmetic formulations. Thus, it is often prescribed as an injectable formulation for restoring skin turgor and correcting wrinkles and folds.METHODS: The aim of this paper is the introduction of a new protocol technique, the “dual fan technique”, for volumetric biostimulation with two different hyaluronic acid formulations, both using an auto-crosslinked technology, through a prospective, open-label pilot study designed to evaluate the safety and performance of these products.RESULTS: Patients’ satisfaction was evaluated with Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale at T2 (15th day), T3 (6 weeks) and T4 (3 month). At T2 and at T3 results showed a global significant improvement in all patients vs. baseline: the 100% of patients reported an “improvement” of their facial aesthetic condition. At T4 only one patient (10%) reported “no change” and 90% still reported an “improvement” versus baseline.CONCLUSIONS: The dual fan technique allows to both improve skin quality and restore facial volumes, correcting deep wrinkles while providing a lifting effect.
