Technical Intelligentsia and the Inventors and Rationalizers Movement in Pskov Region in the 1960s

This work is devoted to the study of the role and influence of intellectuals in the context of stimulating technical progress in the USSR, on the example of the Pskov region in the 1960s. The author analyses the dynamics of rationalisation and inventive activity in the 1960s, relying on the materials of the periodical «Pskovskaya Pravda» and archival documents of the Pskov Regional Council of the All-Union Society of Inventors and Rationalisers (VOIR). The paper attempts to identify the key areas of VOIR members’ activity in the Pskov region, as well as the role and influence of intellectuals in the development and support of this movement. The author provides statistical data on the development of invention and rationalisation in the region, statistical reports on the technical creativity of rationalizers and innovators. The role of rationalizers and innovators taking into account the existing shortcomings in the enterprise’s work is analyzed.
