Possibilities surgical treatment of atypical forms of pelvic organ prolapse

Objective. To improve the results of surgical treatment in patients with rare, complicated and recurrent forms of pelvic organ prolapse. Material and methods. The study included 140 patients diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). The main group consisted of 70 patients with rare, severe and complicated cases of POP, who underwent surgical treatment using our modified colpocleisis operation. The control group consisted of 70 patients with newly diagnosed, uncomplicated cases of POP, who underwent surgical treatment using a mesh implant. Results. The use of the modified colpocleisis technique will increase the effectiveness of surgical correction of rare, complicated and recurrent forms of POP. Operations with synthetic implants should be used only when correction with one’s own tissues is impossible due to the high risk of intra- and postoperative complications. Conclusion. The use of a modified colpocleisis operation in atypical forms of POP is a highly effective method of correcting prolapse, which, in combination with a simple technique, allows it to be offered as a basic method for vaginal access in patients who do not wish to have sexual intercourse.
