The unprecedented Paxlovid journey from milligrams to millions of patient doses during the Covid-19 pandemic
The SARS-CoV-2 infection triggered a global pandemic in 2020, and the identification of safe and effective oral antiviral treatments was critical in the fight against COVID-19. Here, we describe our adaptive approach to developing the antiviral nirmatrelvir/ ritonavir (Paxlovid) to treat COVID-19. Yu et al. describe the challenges faced in the rapid development and upscaling of Paxlovid to meet the global demand for COVID-19 treatment. They respond to challenges by investing at risk, integrating predictive tools in development strategy, and implementing a diversified global supply chain.
