The EU’s New Asylum Pact and Ireland’s Opt-in
Abstract The EU’s 2024 measures on asylum are changing many aspects of procedures and content for applicants for international protection. After many years of partial participation in the EU Common European Asylum System, Ireland has chosen to opt in to most of the new measures which will bring its international protection system into greater alignment with the EU. In this article I examine the history of Ireland’s participation in the CEAS and the choice now to opt in to most of the measures and what this will mean specifically for remedies under the revised CEAS and the powers which must be provided to courts (and tribunals) as a consequence.
