Frequency-domain broadband shortwave infrared spectroscopy for noninvasive monitoring of tissue optical properties (Conference Presentation)

This work presents a new hybrid frequency-domain shortwave infrared spectroscopy (FD-SWIRS) instrument that allows for measurements of absorption spectra in the shortwave infrared wavelengths. Here, we presented the application of this technique on different porcine tissues with different fat content and layer structures. The results showed that the chromophore fit may be significantly improved by using different constant absorption backgrounds for different wavelength ranges. This preliminary work provided first results on biological tissues using the novel hybrid FD-SWIRS technique. Future works will focus on explaining the different constant absorption backgrounds and assessing the capabilities of this new technique on measuring on human tissue in vivo.
