Silicon plasmonic platform for interconnect applications

We summarize our recent achievements in designing novel integrated photonics components for optical interconnect applications. The silicon platform has been utilized as the core foundation for the majority of these devices. Notable examples include an optical router based on a 3x3 single multimode interferometer (MMI), an Epsilon Near Zero (ENZ) integrated microring modulator, and loop-terminated Mach-Zehnder filters. We also introduce our innovative concept of employing highly doped silicon as a metal-less plasmonic slot waveguide for compact waveguiding in the Mid-IR range. These silicon plasmonic waveguides have been pivotal in the development of compact filters, resonators, and power splitters. Additionally, we showcase our recent advancements in optical routers using metasurface designs, which can function as optical and spatial modulators and optical cross-connects. These cutting-edge components and concepts underline our progress in enhancing the performance and miniaturization of optical interconnects, offering promising solutions for next-generation photonic systems.
