Study of student attitudes towards research

Attitudes towards research are a set of convictions, emotions and predispositions of a community towards research. It was proposed to analyze attitudes towards research according to socio-academic variables in Peruvian students. A non-experimental cross-sectional design was used, with a quantitative expo’s facto approach of descriptive level, 2448 university students from five (5) public and private universities in Peru, intentionally selected, participated. Most of them had unfavorable attitudes for the general assessment and the dimensions of interest and vocation for research, however, for the dimension of evaluation for research, favorable attitudes were found. It is concluded that students from private universities in the area of health sciences have better attitudes towards research than students of social sciences and engineering, and it is students in the last years of study who value and have a greater vocation for research than students in the first years.
