EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAMME REGARDING NESTING AND SWADDLING ON THE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES OF STAFF NURSES.
Prematurity is a term used for all neonates born less than 37 week's or 259 days of their gestation and is consider the direct cause for 24% of neonatal deaths. “To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding nesting and swaddling on the knowledge and practices of staff nurses working in NICU and maternity unit of selected hospitals in city' A pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was used in this study. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 100 staff nurses. Considering the objectives and hypothesis of the study conceptual framework was prepared based on Imogene king goal attainment theory. Data were collected through one tool that includes; 1st part demographic data, 2nd part; knowledge questionnaire, 3rd part was a self- reported practice checklist before and after structured teaching program. The data collection was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. There were 100 staff nurses working in NICU and maternity units, each of them had received structured teaching program on nesting and swaddling for newborn. Their pre and post-test correct assessment were recorded and mean and standard deviation of the test scores are calculated. It was found that, the mean posttest score was 26.77 which was greater than mean pretest score 10.95. The paired 't' test value was at the level of P 0.05, Since P value is less than 0.05 (P value = <0.0001) difference in scores is statistically signicant. Researcher conclude at 5% level of signicance and 99 degrees of freedom that the above data gives sufcient evidence to conclude that nurses after receiving structured teaching program on nesting and swaddling for newborn is effective in improving knowledge. Hence reject null hypothesis and accept research hypothesis. At 5% level of signicance.
