Advancements in the design and development of scramjet engine: an overview

This study aims to overcome the difficulties associated with operating scramjet engines at hypersonic speeds, including the short time required for fuel-air mixing and combustion. A thorough review process is used, with an emphasis on cutting-edge approaches including transverse and cavity-based fuel injection systems. The main conclusions show that cavity-based methods improve mixing efficiency and combustion stability, particularly those with many cavities and geometric changes. Techniques for transverse injection that make use of shock waves and shear layers have the potential to improve mixing and stabilise flames while lowering pressure loss. These developments offer vital information for creating novel scramjet designs that guarantee effective combustion, more thrust, and enhanced performance all around. Through sustained improvement in fuel-air mixing technologies, the study emphasises the relevance of these discoveries for furthering hypersonic aeronautical exploration and transportation.
