THE STUDY OF CONDITIONS AND APPROACHES TO THE FORMATION OF THE SUPER SUBJECT INFORMATION COMPETENCE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS WITHIN THE USE OF ELECTRONIC LIBRARY SYSTEMS

Background. The transformation of education into a high-tech field emphasizes the importance of research and development related to the formation of information competence among future specialists. The relevance of this research is driven by the need to orient students toward mastering data retrieval through reliable sources, such as electronic libraries and electronic library systems (ELS), and by promoting libraries as key elements that ensure academic integrity. The aim of the study is to assess the level of information literacy among first-year students in order to enhance the effectiveness of educational activities at the university, aimed at developing information competence through the use of electronic libraries and library systems, while also addressing their challenges and needs. Purpose of the study is to determine the conditions for the formation of the necessary level of information competence among first-year students. Materials and methods. The main research method is quantitative data collection, with a survey of first-year students consisting of 8 open and closed questions. The collected data were analyzed using statistical methods. In addition to the survey, publicly available statistical data provided by electronic library systems were used. The article is based on an extensive set of sources, including scientific articles, conference proceedings and related publications which highlight the use of electronic library systems in the digital information and educational environment. Results. The conducted study identified the main difficulties students face when working with information, which served as the basis for adjusting existing educational activities aimed at developing super subject information competence of first-year students at the university. As a result of the analysis, the key aspects that should be emphasized during educational activities were identified. These include evaluating the reliability of sources, filtering and selecting relevant data, addressing access to resources, and developing skills for working with ELS interfaces. The study is part of a larger effort to develop a pedagogical approach that enhances the effectiveness of electronic library systems in the university. EDN: AQKORM
