MODELLING FOR SIMULATION MULTI-USE – TOWARDS A FRAMEWORK FOR COST-EFFECTIVENESS ANALYSES OF REPERFUSION TREATMENTS FOR ACUTE STROKE

This paper considers the development of multi-use simulation models for cost-effectiveness studies of reperfusion treatments in acute ischemic stroke. The consistent and accurate multi-use models for cost-effectiveness studies for a specific health domain allow for cross-comparison and interpretation of findings. Furthermore, modelling efficiencies may benefit from exploiting system similarities. To explore requirements of multi-use models, a scoping review was performed to characterise simulation models for cost-effectiveness analysis of stroke reperfusion treatments. Findings were used to define a mixed model structure covering the treatment (acute phase) and long-term follow up, model qualities and a framework for model development. In doing so, changes to common modelling frameworks targeting single use models, addressing logistic analysis within a single time frame were considered. Although there would be clear benefits of multi-use models, these should be traded off against substantial efforts involved in their design and maintenance.
