A New Design for Miniaturized Tri-Axial Search-Coil Magnetometer Featuring Crosstalk Suppression

Tri-axial search-coil magnetometers (TSCMs) are capable of measuring vector magnetic fields and are widely used in applications such as space exploration, positioning and navigation, and geological surveys. However, miniaturized TSCMs often suffer from crosstalk, which degrades measurement accuracy. This study proposes a novel electromagnetic shielding strategy to suppress crosstalk at its source. By integrating finite-element simulations with dimensional optimization, we designed a lightweight multilayer cylindrical shield achieving 65% mass reduction versus conventional counterparts. Experimental characterization revealed three key advancements: 1) −38.8 dB interference suppression; 2) 97.8% crosstalk suppression; and 3) a decrease in angular measurement error from 10.17° to 0.117°. The proposed architecture enables high-fidelity vector field measurements in miniaturized TSCMs without post-processing, showing significant potential for space-constrained deployment.
