A study on natural ester as an alternate liquid dielectric for transformer with antioxidants
Many high-voltage applications use liquid insulation as an insulation substrate, which efficiently dissipate heat produced while operation. Mineral oil produced from petroleum is commonly used as a liquid insulation in transformers. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate how different concentrations of butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT)and citric acid (CA) antioxidants affect the AC dielectric strength of the natural ester Envirotemp. The breakdown voltages having 1%, 25%, and 50% risk likelihoods are analyzed using the normal and Weibull distribution functions. It is demonstrated that the breakdown voltage data for all the nanofluids under investigation follow both the normal and Weibull distributions. The dielectric strength of natural ester can be increased by adding carefully thought-out antioxidants. Conversely, the greatest increase in dielectric strength is provided by the BHT antioxidant. In fact, the enhancement is 32% with BHT antioxidant and 24% with CA antioxidant.
