Large-scale synthesis and characterization of complex oxide membranes and heterostructures
The manipulation and creation of materials in two-dimensional (2D) forms have consistently revolutionized science and technology. The precise growth of atomic-scale thin films has facilitated the development of artificial 2D heterostructures, showcasing novel functionalities and emergent phenomena, exemplified by perovskite oxides. Recent breakthroughs in synthesizing freestanding complex oxide membranes present novel avenues for manipulating and characterizing oxide functionalities. The talk will cover many new opportunities for oxide membranes we are beginning to explore, including strain engineering, atomic-scale visualization of phase transitions, and Moire lattices of complex oxides.
