Elucidating the effect of bisphenol A in Alzheimer’s disease using label-free nonlinear optical microscopy
Recent research highlights the impact of environmental toxins on Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Bisphenol A (BPA), a common plasticizer, disrupts endocrine function and accumulates in body tissues, potentially contributing to AD. This study exposed 5xFAD AD mice to BPA at 50 μL/kg per body weight per day through drinking water and compared brain slice images to those from unexposed 5xFAD AD mice. Using SLAM microscopy, we observed a significant increase in Amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques in the hippocampi of BPA-exposed AD mice compared to unexposed ones. These findings suggest that BPA exposure affects Aβ plaque formation, potentially accelerating AD progression.
